Aviator Sheepskin Flying Jacket

£500.00 inc Tax

Style it out in this genuine, high quality sheepskin, replica flying jacket. Perfect for those cooler days and nights outside.

In the First World War, most airplanes did not have an enclosed cockpit, so pilots had to wear something that would keep them sufficiently warm. The U.S. Army officially established the Aviation Clothing Board in September 1917 and began distributing heavy-duty leather flight jackets; with high wraparound collars, zipper closures with wind flaps, snug cuffs and waists, and some fringed and lined with fur. These were made by Leslie Irvin.

In the Second World War, Irvin opened a factory in the UK and supplied the RAF with flying jackets. After the war demand fell away, Irvin stopped producing the jackets, but the history and the style lives on today.
